Napier's Bones and Chessboard Multiplier

Issue 44 of plus magazine is out with some worthwhile articles, as usual. Learn a bit about Euler and the calculus of variations, with a philosophical detour, or play with a very slick simulation of a multiplying computer which only uses a chessboard and markers.

I didn't read much of the body, I just read a little of the explanation. It was fun to play with the animation though!
